Then and now... but above all moving forward
Jan Stenbecks torg
Today, Kista is divided with housing in the west and the workplace area in the east. In between is Kista Galleria and Jan Stenbecks torg. The area is undergoing major changes and the eastern side is being transformed into a mixed use neighborhood where workplaces are mixed with rental apartments and tenant owned associations.
New communications are planned and approximately 8,000 homes are to be built within the next few years. In this exhibition, Centrum för AMP and Stenbecks Torg present some of the projects that are underway in the area. The exhibition has been produced together with Stenbecks Torgs partners: Stockholms stad, Klövern, Citycon and Kista Limitless.

Fokus Järva
Stockholms stad
Fokus Järva is an initiative from Stockholm stad and a comprehensive plan for the development of Järva. It is one of the city’s major investments in urban development and part of a long-term project.
With an eye on the future
Järva is an area with great qualities and great local commitment. But the differences in living conditions compared to other parts of Stockholm have grown. Therefore, a concerted effort is needed for all of Järva as well as better conditions for the area to develop. Stockholm stad will assume a greater responsibility for the area and create a more coherent effort and a comprehensive plan for the development of Järva.
Five target areas for Fokus Järva Within Fokus Järva there are five prioritized areas for development. The foundation is new housing and urban environments, but also investments in education, work and meaningful leisure.
- Children and young people’s upbringing conditions Järva should be developed in a socially sustainable way.
- Ecological sustainability and climate justice Fokus Järva is an important part of the work on climate change.
- Civil society and participation The opportunity for participation is fundamental to people’s well-being and health.
- Business and employment To develop the business community in Järva, several initiatives are required from the city.
- Urban development and urban environment Urban development provides an opportunity to conjoin the city and add new qualities.
New homes and more pleasant outdoor environments
In Järva, several thousand new homes will be built with outdoor environments being renewed. At the same time, the municipal service is evolving. A service that has great importance for the everyday lives of Järva residents, for example in preschool, school, leisure, sports, culture and care. The city’s initiatives include major investments in the outdoor environment, but also the daily maintenance keeping the neighborhood clean, neat and safe.
We develop Kista
Kista is being developed with more housing, which is part of the transformation to a mixed use neighborhood. Through the expansion of the Tvärbanan via Kista to Helenelund the area will have an even better range of public transport. There are opportunities here to complement the area with the creation of multiple urban qualities, connections and functions

An innovative neighbourhood in transition

Kista square garden
Klövern
With Kista Square Garden, we are transforming offices at Klövern into vibrant residential areas with places for creative meetings. There will be high-quality and sustainable housing in the middle of central Kista. Those who settle here will have access to a leafy courtyard, a roof terrace with breathtaking views and the tram outside their door. And above all, as residents, you will become a natural part of the meeting place we create in collaboration.
Background
The building was originally built in 1985 as an office for Ericsson, the hub of Sweden’s largest IT center at the time. The impressive fortress-like building is located in the middle of central Kista and has a total gross area of approximately 56,000 square meters on six floors. At the top is a recessed penthouse and below a garage level with a connection to parking under Jan Stenbecks torg.
Conversion
In the transformation that Klövern is currently undergoing, recycling and circular thinking are in focus. We are preserving large parts of the facade and the foundation. We are developing a vibrant residential district of 870 homes for all aspects of life. There will be vibrant ground floors with restaurants, a café, a grocery store and other services for a dynamic and inclusive urban environment. The inner courtyard will be something out of the ordinary with opportunities for relaxation, socializing, playing and growing crops, as well as a community house for parties and socializing. On the roof, we will create an inviting roof terrace with outstanding views in all directions, a pergola, greenhouse and comfortable seating areas. Kista Square Garden is being transformed in stages. In the first two stages we will build rental apartments, Square Garden. Stages three and four will be a mix of rental apartments and condominiums, Central Hub, as well as premises for service, health and food on the ground floor.
Sustainability
Klövern preserves and reuses instead of demolishing and building new. Technically, this means that Klövern retains the office building’s frame and updates it with modern installations. Construction waste and interior parts are inventoried, sorted and reused as much as possible. Other planned solutions include the reuse of excess heat from future tenants, which generates a lot of heat.
Our ambition is to become one of Sweden’s leading housing companies, leading the way for a sustainable development. We do this by leading the industry towards net zero CO2 emissions, creating positive social change in the places we build homes and by becoming the industry’s best employer. By virtue of our size, we want to create maximum positive impact in society whilst having minimal impact on the planet. We are a company in strong growth with proud and driven employees. Our main owners, real estate investor Nrep together with real estate companies Corem Property Group and ALM Equity, gives us a stable foundation for our growth journey towards becoming Sweden’s leading real estate and development company. Please visit our website, Klövern.se, for more about how we are involved in developing Kista.

The urban development in Kista will be Citycon's largest investment ever
Citycon
Citycon owns, operates and develops Kista Galleria. In recent years, Citycon has invested 100 million in the interior modernization of the mall – as part of Kista Galleria’s development journey. Kistagången received a facelift where warmer colors, better lighting, wood and greenery were guiding stars for the interior.
The starting point for Kista Galleria
In Kista Galleria you will find Sweden’s first and largest food court, MEET. Here, friends, colleagues and families gather to socialize from morning until evening and every day our restaurants serve 6,000 meals. In 2022, the food court received a warmer feel with a new interior and new seating areas. A change which made MEET a more pleasant place to hang out.
A new green landmark
As part of our future green roof landscape, a landmark of Kista Galleria will form. Profile letters that form the word ”Kista” is planned to be filled with climbing plants that will grow in pace with the project. The landmark will be visible to everyone coming to Kista by metro.
The detailed plan for Kista Galleria 2030
In a new block at Kista Torg, it is proposed to build an educational facility with a food and service profile on 2 floors. The school may be glazed with cafes and entrances on the ground floor that activate the street space in 270 degrees, the building continues upwards with about 80 homes. The apartments at Kista Torg are being adapted for families who want to rent modern apartments close to the center of Kista. At the northern end of Kista Galleria, another cluster for health professionals is being created on up to three floors.
New premises for health care providers will make room for more tenants and strengthen the position as the largest provider of primary care in northern Greater Stockholm. With a population increase in the neighborhood of up to 40% by 2035, more healthcare providers and others who prevent health problems in various ways will be required. The construction of around a hundred apartments is also planned here. 56,000 passengers and around 20 bus routes pass by Kista bus station every day. Here, measures and investments are proposed to create a safer and more attractive arrival hall for Kista Centrum, Kista Galleria, the offices, the academies and the global ICT cluster. In collaboration with the city and other stakeholders, a long-term sustainable travel center with greener, more illuminated and inviting environments is created.
In the future, Jan Stenbecks torg will be a new stop for the expansion of the Tvärbanan to Kista. This creates a safe arrival point with direct access to Kista Galleria. This line will extend from Norra Ulvsunda in Bromma to Kista and then connect to Helenelund in Sollentuna.
